Pyramid

2007 |
Participatory Installation

For this idea, I wanted to continue the element of audience choice in my work which was present in I'd Rather Be Playing Tetris. The proposed plywood pyramid, would be sectioned off into four equal sized rooms inside, three of these rooms would have doors, while one would remain completely inaccessible. Over the course of the exhibition various events and happenings would take place inside the rooms of the pyramid, these would be antagonistic to one another, for example one room might have a party in it, then the next might be full of mess left over from a party which visitors would be asked to clear up. Each day a different door to the pyramid would be open, while the other two remain locked, so visitors would have their experience dictated to them based on the day of their visit. However the events in the other rooms would continue to happen even though visitors were not allowed in, and as such they would be able to hear what was going on but not be able to experience it.

The pyramid design was essentially peripheral to the idea and could have easily been replaced by a set of more traditionally shaped rooms.
