Martello Tower Expedition

2007 |
Performance

A collaborative piece with Robert Leckie in which we attempted to visit and photograph every remaining Martello Tower on the south coast of England in two days. Martello towers, are small defensive forts which were built by the British Empire from around the Napoleonic Wars onwards, most of the 74 have been destroyed, but 26 still stand. We began our journey in Folkestone on the 25th of March 2007, and finished in Seaford the next day, managing to visit 23 of the Towers. Although we located the other 3 towers, they were on either private or military property and as such we were unable to photgraph them.
