Cirque de CFAP 2006 | Participatory Practice |
|
Cirque de CFAP was a collaborative work with Tom Dawson in which we set up a side show stall at the Sculpture course's Christmas exhibition/event. The stall offered people the chance to decorate their own biscuit, for a small fee (to cover costs of ingredients), which they could then keep. In addition to this we ran a 'Guess the number of ideas in the jar' competition, whereby we filled a jar with a number of ideas for art projects and asked people to guess how many were in the jar. The person who guessed most closely to the correct amount would win all of the ideas in the jar.
The stall was reasonably successful and people seemed to enjoy decorating their biscuits. Although primarily a bit of fun the work also raised a number of interesting points which were relevant to both my dissertation and my interim presentation. The notion of the stall being a side show relates somewhat to the ideas in my dissertation revolving around the idea of participatory fun artworks potentially serving as a distraction from the 'real' art on show. |
