206 2004 | SIte-specific video installation |
|
For one of my earliest pieces, as part of the first year Interim exhibition, I made a work which was specific to the particular exhibition and the space in which the work would be shown. I attempted to bridge the gap between our exhibition being confined to a gallery space and the outside world who could not see it, while at the same time, due to the lack of windows in the studio at the time, the fact that we, in turn could not see the outside world. To achieve this I filmed everyone putting up their exhibition pieces just before it opened, this looked light-hearted and reasonably interesting. I also filmed the view from the only (very small) window in our studio, which looked dull and laborious. When I installed the two videos I played them on two monitors facing one another, very close together so if you wanted to watch you had to put your head in between and only watch one up close. |
